why do the music of Galway Reel (3 hand) and Galway Reel (6hand) sound different?

Different dances, different songs. It helps to show the variety of being able to dance to different tunes, so that dances don’t get pigeon-holed into repetitiveness. These two songs came from a generic ceili CD from one of the dance teachers, but I think they’re done by Altan.

The 3-Hand is Altan and three mighty Donegal reels – Tommy People’s, the Windmill, and Fintan McManus’s. the six hand is not altan – actually sounds slightly more sligo in style.

Love having this visual reference to refer back to!

Can you tell me what music you use for the Haymaker’s Jig please? Or is it just called ‘Haymaker’s Jig’. I’m been pulled in last minute to learn some dances for tonight and am desperate so please reply asap!! Thanks!

The song was on a CD that one of the dance teachers lent out. It didn’t have any titles on it, but I think that it’s just standard ceili music. There’s an app for the smart phone that can pick up on the session tunes… I think it’s called TunePal. I’ll try to get it figured out.
